The Privilege of Waiting
It’s Saturday night – Easter Day tomorrow. It is such a privilege to journey through Holy Week, sharing in the story of the Passion in so many ways that make the pain of Jesus very near. I feel tired but not as tired as I will feel tomorrow! Will I wake up in time to get to church by 5.30am? Will we break the Pascal candle this year and will the flowers on the candle stand stay put or fall off? It will be wonderful to walk into that darkened church singing “The light of Christ” and carrying the Pascal Candle. We are so fortunate to have the freedom to worship as we will – because while we worship there are sailors captured by pirates, people living in tents after the Italian earthquake, homes gathered from rubble in Gaza and people in Zimbabwe denied basic human needs. I hope in the joy we all share in the resurrection we can experience and give brotherly and sisterly love to all. And I hope I can wake up!
