The Box Arrives

The re-cycling box is almost held aloft!

The re-cycling box is almost held aloft!

Last Wednesday Richard Jones from Bible Lands came to see me and left behind this box for recycling mobile phones and empty ink cartridges. which can then raise money for Bible Lands. The box will soon be in St James  so spead the word! Richard had been the tour organiser for  the trip to the Holy Land a group of us went on last Autumn. It was great to see him again and share news. Richard had just completed a trip during which it has rained so they were unable to sail on the Sea of Galilee. What a shame! That was one of the high spots of my visit – mainly because the Sea of Galilee didn’t have any buildings on it. Richard was also saying that although money has been collected to help the plight of the people of Gaza it can’t be used yet because the blocades are still preventing enough aid going in or out. In other words the money can’t be spent yet. Tragic.

As I write this I wonder if anyone ever reads it and if I will ever get any replies. Maybe one day when I am really quick at it the conversations will begin. In the meantime I will blog on!  Chris

Women Supporting Women: Designing the Future

Friday the 13th was a good day for me and it was the day that got me blogging. I was invited to attend a conference being run by Women and Work. I had never heard of Women and Work so I had a lot to learn. What I did learn was that Women and Work is an organisation that gives real opportunities for people- especially women – to find out about work opportunities, learn new skills and, perhaps most important of all, grow in the personal confidence that is so important in every area of life. We heard from Norma who had reached a place in her own life which seemed to be completely hopeless until she went along to Women and Work with someone from her local church. There she not only found hope but people who would travel with her on the journey of self discovery leading to work. I left the Holiday Inn, where the conference was held, energised because the morning had been so well run and there had been so many insightful ideas shared. By the way, the biggest cheer of the morning came when someone suggested getting rid of OFSTED! If you want to know more visit www.womenandwork.co.uk or pick up a leaflet in St James.
